187 – Importance
Clementine still can’t shake that feeling that she’s irrelevant to the universe she lives in. Something she has in common with Those Two Girls.
For those who wonder where Clementine saw them before, they all appeared together in that one strip.

Well, at least they are not hunted by evil green-haired battle cyborgs or shadow government agents. Being a mere civilian has it’s perks, such as greatly reduced chances of being killed.
Nah. Their life is simple.
problem is that depending on the story insignificant characters actually have a greater chance of getting killed. Frivolesque does not seem to be too bothered with killing, though.
Everyone with some self-esteem sees themselves as a main character in their life, clearly they don’t have much.
Self Esteem? Clementine has none.
I dunno, I think someone could take pride from seeing themselves as a supporting character. Being part of a bigger whole. Being the best cog in the machine you can be, and keeping the world turning. “For want of a nail [..] the kingdom was lost”
I’m the main character in my own story, but I could do with a different writer.
Don’t we all?
I don’t know, it could have been much worse… I’d rather not risk, who knows, you can end up having Stephen King as your writer.
I wish I had a better artist and that I was in a gender-bender comic.
gender-bender.. wasn’t that a Willis thing? I’m a programmer and whenever I have to make some gender selection option I try to call it genderbender ;-)
I associate it more with Dan Shive than
BruceDavid Willis. There’s a few other I read that qualify, though.
Suzie is as important a main character as John H. Watson, MD is in the Sherlock Holmes stories…
Other than to take the notes that becomes the story, he’s as useless as he’s inept. Why, he can not even figure out if he was shot in the leg or shoulder WITH A SINGLE BULLET ! (Do not get me started about the shoulder wound being the entry and the leg would the exit)
At least Watson is still a main character. :)
Damn this strip is too real, man.

In answer to your textbox question:
Extras are Extras regardless of whether or not they have they have speaking parts. They just might be uncredited with their speaking parts unless they become famous in the future a la Harrison Ford in Apocalypse Now.
Love seeing Marianne and Suzie, and especially Clementine (she looks amazing in the first panel) I can’t think of any of the girls that I would call unnecessary. I think they’re all great.
Clem looks like she could be a model in that first panel. So statuesque.
So, Suzie(?) is Naruto?
What? why?
Early on, there was a joke that Naruto wasn’t even the main character in Naruto. Explicitly stated at some point while the manga was in Monthly Shonen Jump.
Clem is back! And I’m four days late! Gotta love real life getting in the way. Sometimes even I feel like I’m not the main character of my own life, anymore.
I was wondering when you’d show up.
Hope everything’s okay with you, man…
Yeah, everything is fine, just busy. Holidays are coming up, family is being visited, kids are finally out of school for the winter break so I have ABSOLUTELY NO TIME TO MYSELF WHATSOEVER so yeah, internet in general was put on hold for half a week. :)
What is Marianne’s YouTube channel about?
She’s an actress in some geeky webseries.
I kept coming back to this comic and finally realized I have a huge 2D crush on Clementine. Such a fanboy….
I can relate to this all too well. If life was an RPG, I think I’d be just another NPC.
npcs always exist and never die characters die many times most likely and some times disappear and never come back like heros of legend
they can still be extras you but not if they get an entire pannel focused on them they have to respond to off hand comments or be store clerks to remain extras like the all of the girl of many jobs.
