228 – Blob
Welcome back to our regular series.
Remember, Chloe broke her glasses a while ago. She needed to do this.
Yes, I know they don’t really use those old vision test charts anymore… but bear with me.

I don’t know, she kinda looks classy, maybe Lady of Numerous Trades fits her more? Also my headcannon is that she’s mother of all Girls of Many Jobs.
My first thought was that this is Girl of Many Jobs’ older sister. We’re going to need trading cards with stats on the back to keep track. :)
She is.
Wait. That would mean she gave birth to identical quadruplets, raised them, and she still looks this good! I am impressed.
Or has she perfected cloning? Impressive either way.
(I’m assuming the origin story Chloé came up with in http://frivolesque.com/archives/comic/178-origin was just due to excessive gaming, like her ruined eyesight.)
Does that make her the Mother of Many Jobs?
Lots of places around the world still use those charts. I have a wall full of them to check myself here. One of my favorites I got from Africa that has animals instead of letters.
I believe they also use animal charts for pediatric exams. But if you say yours is from Africa, I have to wonder what kinds of animals are on it.
Mostly the usual ones you’d expect as long as the have unique silhouettes, so no cats except a male lion. But there are two I don’t recognize near the bottom, (but I’d never make that far anyway :)
I was going to mention that those were used for my last eye exam a few months ago (I still haven’t been approved by my insurance for the spectacles, though).
They were also in use when I worked at Lens Crafters (in the lab, I crafted the lenses) for eye exams.
Of course, this is in the US. It might be different in other parts of the world?
They used a similar chart in my exam but in a slightly different format — it was built into the examination machine and reflected in a mirror. The doctor could change cards with the turn of a dial.
One room in the eye exam had the eye charts as shown in this coming, a different room had the ones as you describe.
Lens Crafters had the old fashioned kind shown in the comic.
Chloé looks like she have huge anime eyes.
She always did.
You’re one to talk, Juju. :-)
Doesn’t she always?
Not as big as when you see part of the measuring device as her eyes. Big white circle with a black pupil.
By the way, speaking of Japanese RPGs. Dez, what do you think about “Tales of” series? I recently found Tales of Berseria and I’m madly in love with it. It even has a group limit of four to six characters!
I only played the first few tales games (Phantasia, Destiny, Eternia, Symphonia). The series still looks fun, but I haven’t had time to play RPGs in decades.
The Sweet Mother of Girls of Many Jobs.
Aww…you beat me to it.
awwww… :>
Pretty much!
No. No they still do those. I had to take one of those eye-vision tests about a month ago.
I also recently had an eye exam, and used a similar chart. But one difference was that the exam room was rather small. I was actually looking at a mirror on one wall, and the chart was projected (in reverse) on the wall behind me.
I find the assumption that video games ruin eyesight offensive!
I’m pretty positive it does. ;)
Video games may train you to neglect your peripheral vision, but then so do my glasses.
Other than that there is no confirmed evidence that games ruin your eye-sight.
Actually there is research in using VR glasses for curing amblyopia.
That’s right, video games can improve your eye-sight. But you’d still wear glasses ;)
I think it’s all about straining your eyes. I can spend all day playing games and feel okay, but 3 hours working in MS Word and my eyes would hurt like hell.
My favorite part of the eye chart is line 8, because DEFPOTEC sounds like a heavy metal band.
…Can you tell I’m the child of an ophthalmologist?
I’m keeping this one for later.
I hope she gets the same kind of glasses Clark Kent wears.
The glasses i like best are the kind Clark Kent wears.
I think I have those! One time when I was being chased through a crowd by some “unfriendlies”, I took off my glasses, pulled back my hair, and causally walked straight back passed them. They never even noticed me. It works!
Maybe I should try flying next? :)
It works because so many look totally different without their glasses than they do with them on, even if it’s a simple pair of wire-frames. It’s really weird, but true. It’s also a really effective trick to mess with people’s minds–just take off your glasses and change your hairstyle slightly, and even your friends won’t be able to figure out what’s different about you. (Two-legger minds are so much fun to mess with, nyao! -_^)
It doesn’t work for me. People always recognize me with or without my glasses, regardless of hairstyle. It’s almost uncanny.
On the plus side, so do cats.
That’s probably because we kitties can often perceive things that two-leggers can’t see, nyao. It makes up for being somewhat colorblind, let me tell you…
Is that doctor the mother of the color-coded multiplets?
Obviously!
