229 – Status Quo
The 4th wall gets pretty damaged here. But hey, look who’s here!
My apologies to those who wanted to see Chloe with a whole new look.
Please vote for me on Top Web Comics!

Well, at least you don’t have to update banner again. I still can’t believe nobody noticed Gaia’s glasses on the banner of translation T_T.
Nobody has?
Maybe they did, but no one commented about it.
hazyrayh commented about it the day it changed.

Clif was talking about the Russian readers.
Ah. Sorry. Feel free to delete me.
Laurence would make a great classic Bond villain in that gear she’s wearing.
“Do you expect me to talk, miss Laurence?”
“No! I expect you to DIE!”
Laurence needs an identical cat to Philémon to really get a Blofeld vibe going… Right now shes a little more “Dr. Evil” than “Blofeld”…
I can sort of see her having sharks (with lszer beams) frozen solid in the outside swimming pool because well it’s a normal winter in Quebec City !
Too glitzy for me Chloé. Next she’ll a single rhinestone to the back of her hat. Where will it end?
It ends with the streets paved in plastic particles, buildings bedecked with baubles, and glitter just about EVERYWHERE.
Ohhh, so basically Christmas. :)
After I’ve spent more than 15 minutes on the 2nd panel, finally I’ve found the difference!
the old one got duct taped :D
I didn’t even see that, all I spotted was the two dots on the arm.
The new pair is also a slightly darker brown. (And a bit flatter, without the de-saturation.)
There’s actually four “main” differences, not counting the tape. ;)
Plasma and Reynard found two other.
Alright, so we got 2 dots on the arm , spotted by Plasma (& us, but didn’t comment in time to take credit) & slightly darker brown as Reynard saw. The new ones seem to be a smoother change from arms to lens frames, cause the older ones have a extra line in front of the hinge gap line. Daniel the Human says the arms on the new ones might stay the same thickness while the older ones get thinner, so I’ll take his word for it…
Did we get them all?
I think I see the arms on the new ones curve slightly where they sit on the ear. The old ones seem to be straight there.
Also, you can see the hinges look different from the inside too – look at the old glasses where she’s holding them (throught the right-side lens), there’s a differently colored part. The new ones are the same color there as elsewhere.
That differently colored part isn’t the hinge. It’s the tape that Chloe had to use to hold them together when she and Marie accidently broke them earlier.
Were we supposed to notice that Laurence’s pockets changed slightly since the last time we saw that coat, too?
Also, nice detail that the lenses properly distort her collar and the earpiece.
Not mention all the other small changes. Will there be a contest to find them all? :)
(Yes, I finally got the joke. I’m going back to sleep.)
I… don’t think I changed her pockets… have I?
Round pocket bottoms here vs. square in http://frivolesque.com/archives/comic/200-inclusion where we saw that coat last.
(But it’s mostly about me taking the not “changing character designs too much!” line and running with it to examine all the characters for minor changes. {Detail awareness may be the cursed side of my “gifts”.} I found a few, besides the 4 on the glasses, but all are easily explained away. i.e. The pockets got stretched since she likes to keep her hands in them.)
Laurence can’t damage the 4th wall. She has already obliterated it a long time ago.
Clearly, it’s still standing since the other characters aren’t seeing through it!
No, they were just Deus Ex Machina’d not to look in that direction. :-)
You’re almost “Wade-Wilsoning” that 4th wall XD
That’s the rule of the comic wardrobe. Every character have a wardrobe full of the same item of clothing.
But but… I try to have different outfits for my girls!
Also, nice double panel.
Still doesn’t beat the triple panel we had a few months back.
As a once Lab Member (crafter of the lenses) at Lens Crafters, my main concern would be whether the actual lenses could be fit into both frames interchangeably.
But why would that be important?
While I know that the actual materials that go into crafting most lenses is inexpensive, the mark up is tremendous.
Customers OFTEN wanted to be able to use their favorite frames.
I still don’t wear spectacles, but working behind the scenes, lenses that work in those old, favorite, not new frames seemed important.
By the way, Dez, I have an idea: how about including info about character’s eyesight into their profile pages? I mean everyone has age, height and blood type in their comics, but having diopters would be pretty unique, right?
Haha. I thought of doing this once. Then I realized it would make me look even more creepy-obsessed than I actually am, so I decided against it. ;) But if you’re curious about this, feel free to ask.
Wait….you mean you’re NOT even more creepy-obsessed than you seem? Wow, I was way off the mark, then…
Now, that’s just mean.
Nah, we just assume that everyone naturally hides part of their creepy-obsessiveness. So it’s just surprising to hear that there isn’t actually more :P
It would be nice if we got a TWC voting incentive occasionally.
I still have no idea how that works or what to have as an incentive, though.
Anything can work as incentive. Comics-in-progress is probably an easy one.
No idea how it work with adding one in TWC though. Though I have noticed that the url of a vote incentive generally stays the same. So you probably just enter a url somewhere and change the picture it points to every now and then (or not).
