131 – Gathering
Back to our main story, where Marie-Neige finally develops a more serious crush on someone new…
I wonder if she’s still into Gaia and the girl of many jobs at this point.
Laurence was right though. I have way too many characters present in this story. T_T
The book’s release and the Comiccon are finally behind me. I can finally rest again after two very rowdy months.
Don’t forget to comment, follow me on Twitter or like the Facebook page!
see Liliane. your date DID arrive!
Just not the date she was expecting.
hey a dates a date. would any sane person turn Maire-Neige down? of course, they might be insane by the time the date ended…
I still suspect her date ran afoul of trouble maybe Phoebe, and ended up lying in a ditch somewhere, hopefully still breathing.
Frivolesque is probably too cheerful for that! I hope so… I’d hate for my pessimism to be justified.
*Looks suspiciously at regular commenters, wondering if THEY are responsible…*
Dang, you caught us.
I don’t think Liliane is popular enough for regular commenters to kidnap her potential date…
I hope for M-N’s sake that this doesn’t cause Clem to go all yandere on her.
sounds like the makings of a great side story haha.
Only just as long as Frivo doesn’t end up all gritty and dark as a result.
when i said “side story”. i meant alternative storyline. like something a fan would make, but it wouldn’t be part of the normal/cannon story line.
Clementine?
That’d be out of character!
exactly. no one would predict yandere Clementine. it’d be to late for all who stood in her way. :)
If something snapped inside, it could happen. Maybe a second personality appearing, that acts on the dark desires of the original personality. Definitely a possibility in fiction.
It’s…it’s okay, Clem…really, it is…. She’s just not the right one for you, and I’ll always love you….
At least she has you. :)
But I’m only a lesbian at heart, not in body. :( I can’t do any more for her than give her my love.
Yeah, poor Clem.
Frivolesque is still hanging at 53rd spot in the Web Comics 100.
I think that it will end up in the low 50s for the month, with over 1000 votes. One goal met, maybe.
I still can’t believe that it’s behind a webcomic that freakin’ ENDED two months ago!
Which one?
Lunastar.
It’s a precursor to Data Chasers, which is at #13.
Oh, and I’ve changed my avatar to one from my own webcomic. (1552 with 3 votes, but I only put it up yesterday…)
What’s it called?
The Gentle Wolf (that’s her in the image) It’s about some young teens (13-15) who have to become responsible for themselves and make some tough, unpleasant choices. It’s pretty easy for me to write, since I’ve had the pleasure of knowing some exceptional teenagers.

Over 1000 votes now. Met the goal for the month!
It ought to be easier now, since Dez has seen a lot more viewers this month.
Now you have to update the relationship chart.
Will do!
M-N would have quite a lot of crush arrows to everyone by now.
Cluttering the whole thing
Come on, M-N, you won’t be young forever, choose one passion already! Oh, who am I kiddin’…
Dez, by the way, would you kindly return top1000 webcomic button to the description? I kinda forget things sometimes T_T
Uh, sure!
I thought it was cluttering the whole thing…
But… the button is always there, on the right sidebar!
“Is this what true love feels like?” she asks. Not for me to judge. I will say though that you shouldn’t get too carried away yet Marie. After all, you haven’t seen her yet without her glasses.
Indeed, I wonder how she would react with that gaze upon her. Would she scare away or fall into deep submission ;)
Glasses are probably a part of what Marie finds hot.
MN face in second panel is remarkable :3
So blank and spaced out.
That’s a lot of charming, smart, and sexy all in one place. Fate seems to be pretty good at surrounding Mimi with seriously badass role-models.
Aw, thank you. :)

Pretty much. XD
Minus the explosions.
Quick question: How is “Neige” pronounced? I’m thinking “NAYzh”, but I’m probably doin’ it wrong…
I guess that’s one’s gonna be hard in english, but you’re not too far off I guess…
Here’s a useful Google Translate link
https://translate.google.ca/#auto/fr/snow
Just press the little speaker icon in the right box. :)
Okay, thanks! (“Mary-snow”. Great name!)
Yup! That’s what it means. There’s a lot of “Marie-something” in french, but Marie-Neige is not very common. Pity though, I think it’s very pretty.
She was usually known as “Yuki” when I first created her, which means snow in Japanese, so I wanted to keep that when I renamed her.
I discovered Frivolesque at the Québec City Comiccon this weekend… Call this a happy accident, since I wasn’t planning to go at first. But a colleague asked me if I wanted to go… So I changed my mind. And am I glad I did!
Well, Frivolesque caught my attention. Because the drawing is beautiful, yes, but mainly because the action takes place in Québec City, where I live. So I decided to give it a try… And, between Sunday and Monday, I kind of read it all, including an awful lot of comments.
I like the balance between Japanese manga and North American comic styles, both in your drawing and the rhythm of the story. But where I think you nailed it particularly well is by not sticking to the “regular postcard and tourist places all the world already knows of Québec” and the amount of “real life details” in almost every strip. Honestly, I’m impressed. When you say the backgrounds are tough to draw and take a lot of time, I completely believe you.
Ok, for those of you who never visited Québec, let me tell you this: Google Street View… “Rue Saint-Joseph E”… Go from “Église Saint-Roch” to “rue de la Couronne” and compare what you see with the strips of the last few weeks and you’ll be amazed. For example, when Gaia cuts her hair, the address, shape and color of the door you see behind her are accurate. Even a sign on the door. Then find the place where Lilliane is waiting for her date (corner of “Rue du Parvis”) and compare… Double row of darker bricks, menu by the door, door/windows shape and number… With this level of details, it would be possible and fun to draw a map of the entire story so far…
Dez, you gained a new reader… Seriously, great work.
PS: One of my favorite places in Québec is the “Café au Temps Perdu” on Avenue Myrand. I’d really like to see something happening there at one point. [Special request]
Yeah, Frivolesque has singlehandedly made me want to visit Quebec. Calgary and Edmonton were great, but no one’s really had nice things to say to me about Québécois until Plasma Mongoose linked this place.
Quebec people are often hated by the rest of Canada (and the english speaking world at large) because we have a different language, a different culture, and sometimes DARE to want recognition. It’s a pity, really.
That’s kinda dumb, but I guess it makes a sad kind of sense. I hear so many anecdotal stories about stuck-up folks from Quebec, but when someone’s actually pleasant I guess they don’t stand out as much.
Wow! Such praise! I’m not worthy!
I’m really glad you found my comic to be interesting so far, and yes, I do try to keep my locations away from the usual tourist spots. But I do used the Plains of Abraham a few times. But yeah, most of the story is set in Saint-Roch, my favorite area. And it’s also the place where I work, meaning any reference I might want to use is a short walk away during my lunch breaks. ;)
As for Le Temps Perdu, we already went there in this strip but it was easy to miss. Marie-Neige is actually the only one in the cast who lives in Sainte-Foy.
Thanks for enjoying Frivolesque! Merci beaucoup!
Je me demandais.
I don’t quite see MN being so much more attractive than the others, but all your female characters are very cute!
Well thanks! But yeah, canonically, Marie is really beautiful, although I guess it’s hard to know in my style where everyone is cute. Like, if she wasn’t such a big weaboo, all the guys would be into her.
It’s Chloe’s half-circle happy face again in panel 2 =)
