119 – Abnormality
Gaia sure is one quirky character, and probably the one that stands out the most in Frivolesque.
The other girls seem to like her though, and so do most readers, if I believe that they tell me
Getting used to her short hair yet?

While I don’t recall seeing Gaia being hit by a bus, you have shown many other aspects of Gaia’s superhumanness before.
The bus thing is one of the many things that happened off screen. :)
Frivolesque – where everything happens off screen. ^_^
Yeah all that stuff’s okay but Chloé saved a cat once so who’s the real superhuman here?
The only superhuman about Chloe is her patience.
And even then, it has its limits.
Don’t worry, Mimi still likes Chloe. :)
It’s also amazing how Gaia can cut her hair so neatly.
She’s used to it. :)
Coming soon: “Gaia shrugged”, the novel.
Wow Saki, it really looks like you were spying on Gaia. Don’t worry Gaia, she is just jealous.
Frivolesque is rapidly becoming kinda a harem manga. Wonderful :)
Wasn’t it a harem from the start?
Although it still lacks a central, audience surrogate male character in the middle of it.
I was kinda joking but actually I was talking about the girls respect to Gaia ;) One could say that it started maybe in “Intentions”, and obviously have its maximum right now in the last panel :)
Just in case I’m with the nowadays definition of “harem” in manga, where the genders and/or preferences don’t matter, ie all-woman qualifies :)
Good luck with the donatios, I’m unable to but I hope other readers can help, you deserve it.
i got hit by a bus and shrugged it off too! i was in my car and made a quick right turn when a city bus driving in the parking lane didn’t stop at it’s pickup spot. the driver just continued and pushed into my lane right as i turned. the bus hit the back trunk area of my car and spun my whole car 180 deg. didn’t damage the bus or me at all. just left a dent in my trunk. the mass difference between us was so great, my car smoothly bounced off the bus and i barely felt a thing. one sec i was driving, the next i was slowly spinning in a circle shocked at what was happening. accident was totally the bus drivers fault btw. if only Gaia had been there to save me. i could have pretended to be injured and that i needed CPR or something.
I have a permanent linear compression fracture on the top of my skull from when I leant down to pick up a bag at a train stop and a train clipped me in the head and knocked me senseless back a couple of metres. When I stood up, my head spurted blood on the poor guy in front of me and then I was told to sit down while I held a towel to my bleeding head(this is why you should always carry a towel with you) while I waited for the ambulance(the one year I forgot to pay for ambulance insurance).
I learnt two things at the hospital, one, they should have used easy to see thread when stitching my head so when they need to remove it a few weeks later, they can spot in in my hair and two, when you lose a lot of blood, make sure you drink a lot of water before you have a piss or YOU WILL BURN YOUR DICK OFF WITH YOUR ACID URINE!.
I probably shouldn’t be laughing this hard, but statements like that last sentence are always funny in contrast with your cutesy female avatars. Especially since Sarah’s actually spent time as a dude.
Regarding the beginning, though, glad you’re alive. A freakin’ train is a pretty impressive thing to survive even a graze from.
It was lucky for me someone had a mobile phone to call the ambulance since back in 1991, mobile phone ownership was very uncommon in Australia.
your story is so much better than mine. and you have cool scars to prove it too. i admit any injury that might lead to brain damage scares the crap outa me. like, i’ve never had a headache in my life and sometimes i think it’s because i’ve never suffered a concussion. i’d like to keep it that way as they really seem to make people suffer. seems like a normal thing to not have headaches, but i’m afraid to tell people irl because it makes some people so angry.
The only way you can see my scar is by shaving my hair off(which I have on a few occasions), otherwise you can only feel the dent. As for any possible brain damage, I have never had an MRI done so I can only assume there wasn’t any worth mentioning.
i haven’t used paypal in 10+ years. ever since they sold out to ebay. um, start a patreon maybe?
or accept bitcoin/DASH donations! that’d be coolness and you could tell people you were “hip” and “with the times”
Apparently Ebay and PayPal are currently undergoing a “velvet divorce” and are in the process of splitting into separate entities. (Or so says the notice at the bottom of my screen whenever I buy anything from Ebay.)
it’s mainly that they got big and starting using theirs size to screw small businesses out of money. they can just hold on to payments for 6 months claiming they are “under review”. it’s bad enough that it’s put people out of business. Paypal used to be such a well run company. but when they got bought out, the original owner left, and Paypal got greedy fast. btw, in general, i’ve found that when founder of a company leaves, the company stops innovating and just worries about it’s stock price. it’s a mark of when it’s time to move on.
Love Gaia’s pose in the first panel (it’s kinda hot actually). And one certainly has to sympathize with Saki. Gaia is a very peculiar person. But that said, one can definitely see signs of frustration on Saki’s part. That girl really needs an ego boost right now. In short, she needs to beat the crap out of somebody.
I like it too. But I like it better panel two with all the girls glancing sideways, it makes me grin every time :)
Yeah that is kinda cute. My guess is that Saki is coming off as a bit of a wet blanket, and everyone else is like “girl…you’re killing the moment here.”
Saki’s a badass that never has any chance to shine, because the other badass girl in the comic just get to shine naturally.
But thank you, I love Gaia’s panel 1 pose too.
Too cool!!
I really like her even better now! :)
Poor Saki though… ;_;
She will have her time to shine.
Arrrgh! She EATS 5 people!
(“eats enough for” maybe?)
She eats *like* five people. I think it is understandable enough in the context of the strip. Of course it can be much clearer, although I think overly precise and clear cut statements sometimes seem rather unnatural (unless it would be in-character for a particular character).
I would like to blame California(or some other related locality) accent/slang for making the word “like” a word without meaning.
like
– having the same characteristics or qualities as; similar to.
– in the manner of; in the same way or to the same degree as.
I think it was perfect, at least I took it the right way straight.
BTW, just in case someone coming later wonders Saki’s dialog in third panel got changed, we are talking about the original version that started “She eat like five persons…”
We’re very sorry, and would like it purged from the public lexicon just as much as everyone else would.
It is inescapable.
i think it’s like, just fine. oh look! i think, like, the wording changed! :)
I have ninja editing skills
Fixed. One of the disadvantages of not being a native english speaker are the slight english fails that end up in the comic now and then.
Well, as I said before I don’t think you made a mistake there, nor that it needed to be “fixed”. As far as I know your grammar was perfect the way it was, and totally understandable giving the context.
Seconded. It was fine as it was, but it’s even clearer this way.
Now, if ‘like’ had been isolated by commas, THEN I’d start being concerned about Gaia consuming human flesh.
i thought it read better before the “correction” too. “like” just needed to be in slight bold so people knew she was using the word to emphasize her frustration.
I used to eat as like five people, I wasn’t supernaturally strong, but I was fast, but had normal endurance (though if I go back down to sea level I suddenly have super endurance), I do still heal very quickly, and, while not a bus, I have been hit by vehicles often and shrugged it off.
The last is useful, because in the last half dozen times I’ve been hit by vehicles, four were hit and runs. Presumably by out of towners come to the city for the Coachellafest. The snowbirds tended to stop and offer help. Only the second to last time was I seriously hurt (broken ankle), and as it was another hit and run, I tried to walk it off.
I did finally go to the emergency room two days later though, when I realized that it hurt much worse than any sprain should.
I’m glad you went in. Sometimes a car hitting one can cause spinal injuries that last a lifetime and won’t really get bad enough to notice until years down the line, too late to do much about it.
Ok Mr Bond. tell us more about you amazing adventures. you say “tourists” hit you. but we know you well enough James. were they international spies? members of SPECTER? how did you cover your tracks after you took them out? these stories must be told.
Not Bond, have never been to the UK, though I do enjoy dirty Vodka Matinis… stirred, not shaken (as preferred by Sean Connery in his first Bond outing).
Just unfortunate enough to have had to walk in California. Most of the younger folk traveling from out of town into Indio, Palm Desert and points in between for the Coachella Valley Music Fest had alcohol or some other intoxicating, and potentially less than legal substances with them. Since they are likely to be unfamilliar with the layout of our streets, they wouldn’t be paying the best attention to their surroundings. I’ve been hit by someone staring to their left while making a right turn (somehow missing that I just passed them on a bicycle). A left turn that ran the stop sign completely. A right turn where they haven’t even slowed down at an intersection while I’ve been cleared to walk.
The very last time I was hit (by an elderly woman in a van) I paused because she started to turn right on red, but then stopped. Assuming she had seen that I wanted to cross, I started, and she bumped me. I kicked the side of her van when that happened.
The worst part is that I felt guilty for scaring her, despite having the right of way.
That pose in panel #1, oh man.
indeed
Pretty Gaia. I like to show her sexier side.
Hurray, comic! I’ve gotten spoiled, expecting it to go up at 12:01.
I find that Frivo posts up a new comic an hour after DoA does on Mondays.
I must have misremembered. I was expecting them within minutes of each other; I haven’t been staying up as late recently.
A new comic appears every Monday at 14:30 Adelaide Time.
It usually goes up at 1AM EDT during daylight saving time. I don’t know why. Something about the server I guess, but I don’t know how to fix it.
I don’t know how you setting that, but a detail is that your server is physically in a city that DON’T use DST, ie the difference respect Québec is one hour MORE when Québec apply DST.
Ah ! j’aime bien ce chapitre !! lache pas Dez !!
Merci mon Denis!
Ahhh, internet, how I’ve missed you…
The net was down here. Daniel the Human managed to get it up & running again. Now happy with my webcomic fix for the day…
If Marie-Neige accepts the hair…I…MUST……acc…ept….this….
in panel 4, Marie-Neige looks like she’s being eaten by her hat. perhaps the hat is what really controls her? maybe she’s Marie, and her hat is Neige? :)
She didn’t just discard her hair, did she? I mean, she can sell it.
Oh, and I guess now Saki can equip her battlesuit and sword, coz nobody gives a damn)
It would be a shame to lose those strands of green hair.
Maybe she could donate the hair to a wig shop or a children’s hospital.
