I missed Saki.
I also missed Gaia’s old trainer, and… that other guy.
Here’s a brief return to the manlier side of Frivolesque. It was long overdue. Actually, it was Frank’s guest comic that made me want to draw Gaia at her gym. I should thank him for the inspiration. I even decided to canonize the gym he drew.
Nick is weird. He’s Clint Eastwood dressed like a Rocky character quoting Marlon Brando. He shouldn’t be allowed to exist.
As always, if you like Frivolesque, don’t forget to comment, follow me on Twitter or like the Facebook page!
Last panel Gaia looks totally unconvinced.
At the very least, I’d guess she questions his melodrama.
Yup. But she’s used to it.
Gaia knows Nick likes to ramble sometimes.
Yes, That Other Guy is back!
Seriously tho, Gaia’a face in the last panel is great.
I wonder if he can be distracted with an empty chair…
Ok, you lost me there.
Nick is supposed to be a Clint espy right? Well a few years ago, Clint gave a speech at a Republican Convention and during it, she started to talk to this empty chair by asking it questions.

Oh boy! I never knew that!
But I’m not that knowledgeable when it comes to American politics.
But it suddenly explains two jokes from this Epic Rap Battle that I never got before… https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=eHCyaJS4Cbs
Don’t worry; most Americans aren’t particularly knowledgeable about American politics either.
…actually, maybe that IS cause for worry.
Prophetic words.
It’s not really appearant, but he’s the same guy that was asking Chloe for brodude video games in those early strips. And yay, thanks! I think she’s pretty cute.
I just voted in the Top 100 webcomics again and Frivolesque is 91st as of this post.
Aw I’ll fall off the face of the earth soon.
Nooo… *Goes for the catch…*
:P
“I can save this one!”?
That’s to be expected DEZ, you need to work it.
“A closed mouth don’t get fed”
I know, but I’m doing my best with the little time I have. T_T
Time? DEZ, all you need to do is ask.
The daily average is 15 votes, the only one day you asked here (June 1st) you got 80, and the only one day you asked on FB (June 5th) you got 60.
I actually did the math, and you could have at the very least 500 votes by now, what means place 72 instead of 95.
That’s implying my readers wouldn’t feel bothered by the constant spam… :/
But I’ll try to add that reminder…
:) I’m totally sure that you are going to bother nobody (*)
A “please vote” is enough to remind us that it helps you (**) and to put the link at hand (***)
Keep calm ;)
* most visitors read the comic and anything else, the ones that actually read the author’s comments care enough to don’t mind.
** Also a “Yay!” or something from time to time it’s rewarding for us fans ;)
*** the TWC banner at the right side is too high, when someone ends reading the comic it’s “out of sight, out of mind”.
That outta sight outta mind bit is true. With over 200 comics in my bookmarks I go thru them at a good clip. Do read comments. But by the time reading comic and comments are done, that votepoke button is long outta sight and mind. Do remember more often then not, but it does get forgotten betimes. Mayhaps more then one at various points, or one of those sliders that move as the screen scrolls.
200? I only have 30 odd webcomics in my favourites and I only check out around 10 or so on a daily basis including Frivo.
But hopefully being in the Top 100 for more than a week should have increased your traffic somewhat right?
It sure did!
Then don’t miss it!
You ask for Facebook and Tweeter every time, why don’t include TWC as well?
Uh, what’s that? Twitter, gosh!
Nick has a right to exist! He’s the only one who has the right to exist!
I should add him to the Cast section of the website. But I need to draw his mugshot first.
Oh come on, chick is clearly Japanese! How can anyone ever think she’s Chinese?
Actually, when I was in China, locals thought one girl to be Chinese, though she was Russian, from Buryatia.
i think because for a white guy in general, every asian looks the same.
some peeps think i’m a chinese, some think i’m a filipino, some say i’m indian, and even some say i’m a guy from middle east :O
I can usually tell the difference between Chinese and Japanese even without hearing them speak a lot of the time, which isn’t bad when you realise I’m legally blind(but not blind blind).
It’s usually obvious by the way they dress. ;)
Uncultured white people, maybe, but yeah, that was the reference here.
And yeah, Indonesian look like a lot of things. ;)
Talking about people in occidental clothes (traditional clothes are very characteristic) I usually can still tell apart Japanese, Chinese, and other Asiatic ethnics at least enough to be able to say “they aren’t THAT” :)
In the other hand I need to admit that almost anyone from Bali to Nepal looks “Indian” to me.
I was actually making fun of old folks (here in Quebec, at least) who call anything remotely Asian “Chinese” because they don’t know any better.
My grandma still says I draw “chinese cartoons”.
Funny, in South America the generic reference is “Japanese”. But it’s fair to note that many people use “Asiatic” too.
Gaia is too strong too wear a helmet, I guess) Still wears boxing gloves, just to keep people from being mutilated ;)
Nice catch there.
I didn’t give her any headgear because, well, Gaia doesn’t need any.
Seems like her trainer and her sparring partner are quite used to it.
I’m not sure about the helmet, but when practicing sometimes the partner wears a lot more protection that the boxer. Breastplate for instance, and tougher gloves, while the boxer wears cushioned ones.
All to put the boxer in disadvantage and demand more effort, like they goes against a tougher opponent.
If they really want to reduce the incidence of brain injury/damage in sports like boxing, all they need to do is ban boxing gloves, that way it’s hurts your hands more when you punch someone in the face, thus you will target the face/head a lot less thereby reducing brain injury.
each time i see Gaia, i feel a strong urge too go work out.
Me too, but the urge usually dies down quickly.
don’t let it go. you need to be in good shape so you can draw more comi– er get more stuff done each day. um.. uhh.. we should all get in shape so we can can get more stuff done each day!
Good advice. :)
Being in shape does nothing to mitigate my laziness, but it does feel pretty great.
Each time I see Gaia, I feel a strong urge to go make out too.
Wait, what?
to win Gaia heart, you must first defeat her in combat. are YOU up to the challenge?
“to win Gaia heart, you must first defeat her in combat.”
Nah, Gaia is a sweetie :)
I could believe that about Saki though :P
“Told you bro, the only way to that woman’s heart is through her sternum.”
for Saki sure. just to earn her respect
success! i ended up working out pretty hard two of the last three days. now i wanna make a cool workout poster featuring Gaia. to bad i’m no good with Photoshop. or drawing anything not involving a straight line… lol.
Focus on working out then. :)
Cheers!! :)
I guess I can understand why Gaia might think of Saki as harmless. As she has tried to keep an eye on Gaia and has been forced to interact with her, Saki has come off as socially inept. I guess that may be the price of the job she has and her inexperience with having friends.
Wow. That’s a wonderful analysis. And you’re 100% right.
Saki’s quite out of her element and ends up looking quite goofy most of the time.
Beautiful, as always. J’adore :)
Merci toujours beaucoup, Kim. :)
Busted! :)
Yes, deserved canonization! (the strip, Frank I doubt it somehow).
This strip is wonderfully drawn. Saki’s perspective in panel two (love the skirt), the stances in panel three, the faces in the final panel. Truly enjoyable.
Aw man thank you. I was really inspired for this one.
Never underestimate people. You never know what they really are capable of, good or bad…
Words of wisdom.
Orange Man!!
The one and only!
Spray-on tans, they make you look like someone from Jersey Shore or possibly Tamaran.
His girlfriend is probably even more orange.
Clem must be half orange person then as she has C type blood.
But at least her skin isn’t.
It’s her inner half that’s orange. :D
So Clementine is orange on the inside?
Yes, eyes of a killer, but no one can really see it unless you’re one yourself, for only by seeing the murder eyes everyday in the mirror shall one learn to recognize them…
Not that I would know, I’m a good person
I fucking love my readership.
You guys are so deep and stuff.
Kinda makes you wonder what the coach’s past is like.
Not that being a killer and a good person are mutually exclusive.
If Frivolesque could update seven days a week, I would totally want to explore his story too. T_T
It’s hard to believe that after nearly forty years the trainer from Rocky is still the default gym trainer for comics, cartoons, movie and TV shows.
Who else could they use? Richard Simmons?
Oh boy.
That would be hilarious!
Rocky (the first film, and the rest of them as well) was quite iconic as a boxig movie, after all.
It’s also one of my favorite movies of all time.
“Join the Nintendo Fun Club today! Gaia.”
I need to have Doc Louis make a cameo in the comic someday!
I noticed an overwhelming lack of Clementine in this strip.
There’s an overwhelming lack of Clementine in most strips, really. Except for the ones she’s in…
Strange how that works. Not that it has anything to do with anything, but were you taken by surprise by the popularity of Clementine?
Absolutely. I never thought she would become a “main” character like she’s now starting to become.
She was just that orange girl in Marie-Neige’s strips.
I guess we shouldn’t be too surprised. In my case at least, I think she’s very cute, and her awkwardness is actually quite endearing.
^ This. Exactly this. Also, the closet lesbian thing is fun, too. It pushes all of my “Yuri Fan” buttons juuuuuust right.
First time through & still going, so this may be a bit out there: is Gaia’s sparring partner here the same guy who was asking Chloé about games in “Bitterness” back in chapter 1?
