323 – Opponent
So the real villain finally reveals herself to our heroines.
It’s going to be two against one now. Will our girls stand a chance?

Oh, Gaia, if you only knew….
She must be blinder than me with her glasses and I’m officially classed as legally blind(but not blind blind)
She isn’t blind with her glasses!
I meant to type “She must be blinder than me WITHOUT her glasses”
Wow, Gaia must have real confidence in Phoebe’s abilities to regenerate, because in the last few panels there aren’t any traces of shock OR anger left in her face. In the next panel Phoebe could be like:
“Oh no please don’t mind my bleeding to death, keep revealing the plot to the audience. Having a crowbar stuck inside you is not THAT unpleasant unless you try to move. Or breathe. Because breathing is a type of movement. Should I be glad that we don’t have solar plexuses? Because I think I should. Oh god now I have to breathe in again.”
And I had to grin at Gaia’s “She doesn’t look that dangerous to me.”
So, defeating Phoebe must’ve been a very common thing to happen back in the day.
“You can’t be all that dangerous if all you managed to do so far was to impale Phoebe. That’s not much of a feat. She even does that to herself during training all the time.”
Poor Saki.
Also I love the expression of Marie in panel 1. It’s great to have a character with glowing eyes with a touch of insanity.
Yeah, that’s a bit weird. But on the other hand, this little comic relief stops Frivo from getting too dark, I guess? It’s still unclear whether Phoebe will survive. Her wound doesn’t seem lethal even for a normal human, the crowbar is stopping most of the bleeding. But Marie-Lune should know by now that green-haired people are hard to kill, right? Yet she preferred to donut Phoebe instead of going for the head. She’s either overconfident she can finish her off later or she was stopped by a thin layer of plot armor and what’s left of PG-13 rating, I think.
Plot armor seems good. And shock value too.
I think that if a human were impaled through the solar plexus (or in close proximity) they would almost certainly die quickly. The heart is so close, the odds of damaging an artery are high and if you try to lightly press the area near your solar plexus you can extrapolate what a crowbar would do to you. Just the thought makes me nauseaus.
But yeah, Phoebe will survive. IIRC Rhea survived chainsaw wounds. Man, Tisi seems to have a thing for the kind of tools you find in a toolshed.
I probably misjudged the area she got impaled through, I thought it was lower, more like abdomen =/
I hope we’ll get an explanation for Marie-Lune’s weapons of choice.
Yeah, I guess that was kinda weak writing on my part. I just didn’t want to have a whole comic of Gaia grieving with her potential killer just standing there not doing anything like a good anime villain who waits for the heroes to be ready before attacking them.
Gaia WILL address Phoebe’s fate next time we see her, though. Gaia IS upset (look at her eyes in the first panel) but she’s just overwhelmed by the entire situation. She’ll get her act together next comic we see those people. And Saki will too.
Hehe, it’s fine, I had fun. ^^ And you even said that you’re growing tired of drawing huge pages, so this is probably where it came from. I didn’t expect her to break down in tears or anything, as she has combat experience like Phoebe and Saki. I just expected her to be less relaxed compared to the last two panels. :-)
Nothing that a senzu bean cannot fix.
Who’s up for some good old Kaio-Ken? That’ll help too…
What? Daniel the Human is a DBZ fan…
Saki’s still lost a lot of blood, and now so has Phoebe… but Gaia is, rather appropriately, a force of nature. Unfortunately, the Furies are still relative unknowns, but if their masters are so confident they can outmode, replace, and exterminate the Titans, then Tisiphone is probably a serious threat. Can’t forget what happened to Rhea, after all.
Stay tuned!
I kinda wish that Marie-Lune’s last words would be “How… unpleasant”.
=D
I think it would also have been funny if Saki had responded to Marie-Lune’s “How unpleasant” in panel 8 with “Yes. It was.”
Now I want more the reveal to be Gordon Freeman, damn it! (j/k)
No idea who that is but I’m pretty sure he didn’t invent crowbars.
He is the Half-Life protagonist who’s trademark starting weapon is a crowbar.
There, the last person on Earth who didn’t know about Gordon Freeman is no more.
I don’t do PC gaming. XD
Yes, well, Gaia… Usually people don’t wear glasses to fit in with their friends. :-/
Conroy. Conroy is still equipping. When he appears, he’ll be wearing an armory.
When Conroy appears, I personally hope he’ll set up a few roofs away and start sniping, rather than run into this meatgrinder.
Superpowered people underestimate the effectiveness and danger of a good sniper. They can kill without the victim ever being aware that they were in danger in the first place, and armour-piercing rounds can ruin anybody’s day — even those with regeneration and/or super toughness.
This is what happens when you put two popular main characters in a bad spot. Hard to create suspense in that situation.
Unless Saki is less popular than I thought. Never mind.
And we’ve seen Phoebe go down, but we haven’t seen her die yet.
I’m expecting Suzie Bastien to appear in a bathrobe, wielding a baseball bat and screaming “You woke me up!”
After the first few times, I started hearing Marie-Lune’s “How unpleasant” with the tone of Stephanie Tanner’s “How rude” (from Full House).
Now I want her to die even more. ;)
