All good things must come to an end.
Nobody liked Gaia with those glasses anyway. Nobody but Marie-Neige.
And a few readers I’m sure.
So, what was the best temporary change?
Gaia with short hair from Chapter 4, or Gaia with glasses from chapter 6?
Should she keep those?

I could go either way, but I certainly don’t mind having a token girl *without* glasses.
The short hair should totally make a comeback though.
Gaia is fun because she can adapt to everything!
One-Armed Gaia for chapter 7!
Only if give her a bionic arm. Or a TENTACLE.
She can borrow one from Nergal
The downside of wearing glasses, this I am well aware of with the 4th issue being glasses that were just a tad too narrow, so the arms pressed into the sides of your face, leaving deep side grooves.
As for Gaia throwing away the glasses, I am happy because as much as I like meganekko, sometimes it is better for some girls to go without them and Gaia is one such girl.
Gaia needs to be the token no-glasses girl, after all.
When everyone is special, nobody is special.
Kinda like that.
She could have just kept the glasses for occasional wearing, though. Throwing them in the trash seems a bit of a waste.
The first panel is a bit adorable.
with or without glasses, long or short hair, Gaia looks great no matter what, but still how about Gaia wearing sunglasses? :D
Now I have the processor image of Gaia mimicking a certain older sister/Government agent…
Younger sister, I meant YOUNGER Sister. The whole baby-faced thing threw me off…
Gaia did wear sunglasses in her very first 1995 incarnation!
The real best temporary change was glassesless Clem. That was a really good look for her.
Yes, that was good. I wish it wasn’t temporary.
T_T
Finally. I know you have a glasses thing, but please, can you add more characters without them or swap existing ones to use contacts.
Nah, that would be way too mainstream of me. ;)
I know what you are saying but that’s almost like asking the author of El Goonish Shive to give up on Rule 63 and other shapeshifting.
The author of El Goonish Shive is Mr. Shive. ;-) Or Dan Shive.
But yes, his comic without transformations wouldn’t have much left.
And it’s fine that this comic has an abundance of glasses. I read so many different comics that whenever I feel I’ve consumed too much of anything I just switch over to a different one.
But there’s nothing like the serene filler comics with Laurence. :-) It’s an interesting development that she changed so drastically and became so bubbly when she finally joined the main cast. I guess she’s just happy to no longer be alone with only her animals. Or maybe she’s nervous? Afraid of having to go back if she’s not being entertaining enough?
Heh, me and my tangents. XD
Heresy!
She shouldn’t have thrown them away though. One never knows when a disguise would come in handy.
It only seems to have worked as disguise on Flore though.
And this is why she should have gotten goggles.
I don’t think Marie-Neige would be into that.
Maybe if Liliane wore them.
Gaia’s cool whatever she does. I wasn’t too keen on her wearing glasses just to fit in, though.
Everybody’s having her little character arc in this chapter.
If Gaia had gone to space with Flore, she would have discovered another way glasses can be a hindrance.
The universe has been righted! Gaia is without glasses again!
(I did like short-haired Gaia though. She looks good in anything.)
I’m really happy with this development (and she is the only girl in this comic that’s allowed to do this too).
…although Saki’s glasses did look good on her.
RIP Gaia’s glasses, comics 225-269.
The short hair evoked way more emotion for me – on the one hand, it looked fantastic, but on the other hand, I felt the same melodramatic horror Marie-Neige did at it, and yet casually chopping it off was so very Gaia – and set up some more payoff with M-N’s slightly alarmed reaction to Gaia’s inhuman growth rate.
I care way more about hair than about glasses.
panel 1: Yes, I have that problem as well.
panel 2: I have a cat’s tongue, so I don’t eat food that is still that hot. Some steam still comes off my warm food, but not enough to fog my glasses.
panel 3: I’m not boxing, but I experienced that if I do sports for a while with glasses and start sweating, then my skin becomes sore, because the glasses move up and down and back and forth.
I like her better without glasses as well. :-)
The first panel is really cute.
The guy in the third panel reminds me of the trainer Mickey from the first three Rocky movies.
Now instead of “Steve eating cereal” we can have “Gaia eating ramen”.
