Well, with a second strip finished, (and a crapload of scenarios written during my time off) I can finally feel comfortable with the fact that chapter 4 is now underway. (Also, this is the first strip so far having more than one word for a title. But I couldn’t think of anything more fitting than this.)
You saw a glimpse of his younger self last week, but allow me to properly introduce Laurent Bougainville in his present-day, gray haired self.
Like they say, the apple didn’t fall far from the tree. Now, you must be wondering where Liliane’s genes came from…
As always, if you like Frivolesque, don’t forget to comment, follow me on Twitter or like the Facebook page!
He should have used puppets. :D
I think he hasn’t used those in a long time…
He was foolish to stop. :P
hahahhah you made my day Dez! xD
Really? =D
yeah :D
also that Liliane drawing on the wall :)
That whiteboard thing actually appeared before :
http://frivolesque.com/archives/comic/exit
But there’s some new stuff on it. :)
I would love to know the history behind that whiteboard :) I guess that Liliane drew the cartoons as a joke and Flore added the tongue as a revenge :P
DEZ now that it’s gone, could you tell us what was the thing at the bottom where Gaia drawing is now? I have been unable to figure it out.
Eeh… That was a real life reference to the actual board I have at my place. There’s always a weird doodle of it of my friend and lab student Gen shaped like a mitochondria. It was an in-joke aimed at her, and I think she got it.
Jeez, I will kill you! It was driving me crazy :P
Nice touch btw ;)
You know young lady, you could tel him about your new friends… *shrug*
…to be continued
Interesting. I’m gonna have to wait & see how it plays out, aren’t I? Fair enough, I can do that…
Short people with helmetlike hair and stripey clothing.
It’s official: this family is cute.
But what about Liliane?
Just read the whole archive, sweet comic, great art, very appealing. More comedy and silly than drama and plot, but so far I love the characters and the introduction pages are just great.
Came over from Falingards’ Flaky Pastry!
Glad to have you here. Thank you! And yeah, there isn’t much of a plot in Frivolesque, but I have a few ongoing threads here and there
Falingard has a great comic. I’m also a fan of Flaky Pastry. :)
Welcome! :)
There are several FP fans over here, include myself. Frivolesque is like the opposite :) but it easily gains your heart for sure:)
My guess is that this strip takes place over a period of 7 and a half hours.
Hah! I actually was thinking that way too. It did last longer that what’s implied in the comic.
They were probably marathoning Lord of the Rings.
Maybe in their heads. And not the movies, the books. Including the appendices.
Flore has funny voices for all the Hobbits.
Flore genderbends the whole cast in her head. She has no love for sausagefests. :)
What are you implying?
That there’s way too many dudes in LotR and not enough females.
At least genderbending the elves doesn’t tax the imaginations.
The dwarves is trickier though.
I wonder if Gandalphine would still have a beard..
I could totally picture myself doing this in the future with my own children.
You never struck me as the most talkative kind of guy…
That’s old fashioned family bonding right there.
And they wouldn’t want it any other way.
Well, the father surely balance the sister ;) If Liliane comes from mother’s side, family trips have to be hilarious.
You know? when you start having tables at conventions that third panel MUST be a banner :)
“Gaia was here!” Hahahaha :D
Nothing escapes you.
I LOVE those bits, you really are the best! :)
Wait, they were married for almost thirty years?
Flore had to be the cutest flower girl :P
Haha. I don’t think they went for a big religious wedding.
Pitty, I was picturing it as the one at “Up” movie :P
With these last bits of information you have me wondering like a billion things :)
Was doll Laurent french?
Were they living in Paris in “Origin”?
Is Flore french?
What kind of artist Laurent is? Was him a puppeteer?
Is Mr Toad one of his old performance puppets?
How Laurent got to know Roxane?
Was him doing a puppet street show at Place du Tertre with Mr Toad as an enchanted toad that asked attendee Roxane for a kiss and poofed into prince Laurent falling the both in love at first sight?
… must go… to do… dinner…
I meant “doll Laurence“.
Dude.
Erm. The only thing French about them is Roxane. She left her home country to be with Laurent after an undisclosed event involving her ex boyfriend and her family. Laurent is not a puppeteer. He’s a cartoonist. For a while, he traveled the world drawing places and people, and sold a few books featuring his various sketches. Mr Toad is just a toy he bought to play with his daughters. No, in “Origin”, they’re in Canada. (both girls were born there). And finally, Laurent got to know Roxane randomly in some café one day. She had just broken up with her previous boyfriend, and got irritated at that short little man drawing her at another table…
Wow, I was mostly just joking around but that’s a lot of nice background, thank you very much! :)
I really have all of this shit written down somewhere.
I wonder if I could not speak for such a long period of time…ever.
You can’t.
Wow, so mushy, keep your emotion in check, people.
Hey Dez, I I’m a new reader) There was a reference at Flaky pastry I found only like, yesterday, so I’ve read over 100 strips in one go. Absolutely hilarious. Painting style, and characters, and unbelievably detailed backgrounds every single strip, and above all, your ability to combine both global plot and local one-strip jokes admires me. Frivolesque goes straight into my favourites.
So, well, that’s it. Sorry for my English, not my native.
Whew!
So much praise. I’m not worthy. Thank you, and I’m happy to have you as a reader!
Don’t worry about English. It’s not my first language either.
See Dez, your brand is growing. ^_^
My BRAND! Damn, you make it sound so important!
If you do not already did, I think that you must register it as trademark asap.
Seriously.
I’ve really enjoyed the story so far and I’m looking forward to reading more.
Thank you, and glad to have you here!
I’m getting an aging hipster vibe from this gentlman. Not in a generic stereotypical way, it’s a very specific set of character traits that’s tough to explain.
This is all based on one 4-panel comic strip so I’m open to the possibility that I could be wrong about this.
Maybe that’s what he is. Being hip long before hipsters were cool.
It just occurred, reading this strip, that Flore seems SO unphased XD as is her father… Quite a funny duo and I probably laughed more than I thought ^_^
It’s just the way things go in their half of the Bougainville family. :)
What, no hugs or kisses? :(
Flore has never been comfortable with physical contact. Seems like her father is the same.
Flore is of few words and physical contact. Outside hugs I’m very similar.
